Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.03 PM

I have bought a electric oven and gas hob. I going to hard wire the oven but I need a socket for my gas oven for the ignition lighter, can I run a single socket off my hard wire socket for this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you can take from the cooker cable along as it is only for the spark generator if not you would have to apply diversity calculations Also running a new cooker cable must by law be reported to building control with diagrams or be one by a registered electrician. John @ J.A.K.E. Services

No, this would not be compliant with BS7671:2008. It is not permitted to take a spur off of a cooker circuit for a socket outlet. You will have to take the socket spur from the existing kitchen sockets ring. Please be aware that this work is building regulation Part P notifiable, so you must apply for and pay to obtain full part P consent from your local authority before you start work. If you carry on regardless and don't get consent then you could be prosecuted at any point in the future and be fined up to £5000.

As J.A.K.E says. And to put belt and braces on it you can label the outlet "HOB IGNITION" or use a switched fused conection unit instead. Covered by appendix H4 on site guide.(cooking appliances).
