my new boiler makes the radiator directly above it bang like being hit with a hammer

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

I have tried bleeding radiators, had the magnetic sludge collector cleaned out. It has only been fitted a week ago, i did have the installer back but typically there was no noise while he was there, so he did the obvious of what i mentioned earlier but it is still doing it.There doesn't seem to be a pattern either, it may happen when the boiler hasn't been on that long or maybe after it has been running for hours. somebody please help it keeps waking my young kids up and driving me potty Additional It's an open vented boiler, Worcester bosch 15ri not combi

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I'm going to guess its a combi boiler and he's swapped the flow and returns on the heating system round. If the radiator has an old thermostatic valve on it may not be bi-directional( which means the water will only flow one way). What can happen is a banging noise as the water tries to go through the valve the wrong way. Try opening up the valve of even take the head off to see if this helps. If it does the valve will need to be swapped over. Not a huge deal. This Is just a possibility with the limited information I have. Hope it helps?

Please tell us what type of heating system you have, either open vent or pressurised (sealed)? Easy to identify by telling us if you have a pressure gauge fitted to your boiler, if it has one then it's pressurised if not then its open vented. Important we know this in order to help with your problem.
