Air ventilation to a hot air heating system (Johnson Starley)

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.49 PM

We have just had our gas boiler serviced. The boiler is in the centre of the house is a large dedicated cupboard space) and WAS vented through the hall and front door. But on advice of the heater installer we closed off the front door vent and the cupboard vent access from the hall, (now sealed when the door is closed) to keep the hall warm BUT opened up two air bricks at foot height and ceiling height (4 air bricks total) and that air is ducted from outside about 1m into the cupboard at floor and ceiling height. The ducts are a clear passage approx 8 inch square. The flue goes up from the heater cupboard and out of the roof. We are now being told that the air ventilation requirement has changed and we should block off the air bricks and re-open the door passage way route with the consequence that in winter cold air is flowing through the passage at all times. Has there been a change of regs? and how can we prove we have adequate ventilation. I might add no other maintainer has commented for the last 5 years and we have a CO monitor. James: The appliance is the Johnson Starley Hi-Spec J32 System E-T and according to the label is 12.7kw.

Do determine the correct size of ventilation tell me the KW rating of the gas appliance and ill do the rest and repost the requirements. I am looking for KW 'heat Input' figure --- Sorry for the delay in replying, ventilation requirements for your appliance: If the appliance IS NOT in a room that has a external wall then you require a Low level grille 323cm² (50in²) plus a High level grille 162cm² (25in²) fitted to the compartment door and the internal wall or door that communicates directly with another room that has a external wall to atmosphere (outside) The external wall ventilation: Low level grille 162cm² (25in²) High level grille 81cm² (13in²) To summarise, your appliance requires its own uninterrupted dedicated ventilation from the room or compartment where it is located directly to an external wall. As for your query 'Has there been a change of regs? The answer is no, your existing ventilation should comply with the above stated from the day it was installed!
