Gardening & Landscaping

Small garden needs a patio installed and new path but I am on a small budget - is it possible?

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.03 PM

Garden is approx 20ft long x 16ft wide. It is all grass and very uneven which would need removing and levelling. I would like to have some sort of patio leading from french doors about 6ft wide x 8ft long (can be smaller or bigger)and would prefer wood decking of some sort) with a stepping stone path from the gate to the shed. I intend to leave the rest as borders.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This job is all dependent on the size of your budget, if lawn is removed and leveled to save budget seed the lawn so there is more in the kitty for the decking.

Everything depends on your budget but things can be done while still saving money, just make sure whoever you choose to do the job doesn't save money but not putting in a good enough sub-base. If a patio is not laid on a absolute minimum of 50mm compacted type 1 ( minimum 100mm if ground is soft) then your patio will sink over a short time, this will just mean any money you have spent will be a waste and it will cost more to put right. There are plenty of nice looking slabs that can be brought on a small budget and simple things like laying the patio with a brick bond ( staggered joints) can make a budget slab look very affective!
