Damp Proofing

damp walls close to skirting board

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Can anyone help? i have a bedroom wall which is causing the wall paper to peel off above the skirting board and the plaster underneath is damp to the touch? could this be a cavity wall issue. I have noticed that we have cavity wall insulation as the wall is external?

you need to find out where the water is getting in before you can cure the issue, bad pointing, roof line, leaking pipe, burst/cracked guttering can be some of the areas for water ingress. good luck alex

Hello is this bedroom on the ground floor? If so this could be a simpler problem known as bridging. If the plaster of the wall is directly in contact with the floor it will cause damp to rise through capillary action. I'd suggest removing a section of skirting, there should be a gap of at least 50mm between floor and plasterwork all the way around. If not simply remove all skirting and hack it off with a hammer and bolster. Regards
