Should/Can I use DITRA on wooden floorboards?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM
I've got three different substrates: 1- Heated Screed (using wet underfloor heating) 2- Unheated Screed 3- Wooden Floorboards All these three are connected to each other. I've been advised to put DITRA matting all over the area using flexible rapid set adhesive and then lay tiles on top using 2 part flexible adhesive on the heated screed area and 1 part flexible adhesive on all other areas. Can someone please suggest if I need to fix plywood over the wooden floorboards area? Also, can Ditra be put over plywood? Does the above sound all ok?

Go for 6mm dukka board over the floor boards this has the same strength as 18mm wpb plywood and is a fully waterproof cement board . Ditra matting is over rated

Ditra can be put over ply (but I would use tile backer board), were all these floors meet you will have movement even if you use ditra and the tiles will crack, the ditra does not protect the tiles from movement due to expansion it is only design for lateral movement, you might have to go with expansion joints. I would use 1 part flexible all over.
