Plaster over rough plaster (walls painted with Dulux Vinyl soft sheen)
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM
I have a cottage which has rough (cottage look) walls and ceilings - downstairs is fine and want to keep it as it is. However, I would like to get the walls and ceilings of the upstairs bedroom and bathroom smooth or at least the ceiling smooth and walls smoother as different to downstairs. The walls are painted with Dulux Vinyl soft sheen by the way so not sure if they can be plastered over. Can anyone give me an answer to this? Both rooms are small 4 x 3.5mtrs for bedroom and 2 x 3.5 for bathroom.

You could apply a plastering primer before skimming, I would recommend using Plasprime, which can be costly (approx £30-40) for a 10 litre tub, but it is the ideal key for re-plastering over most surfaces, especially old walls or surfaces that are non porous. It is applied using a brush or roller and eliminates the need for drylining or taking off old plaster, which reduces mess and saves you money, it's also more environmentally friendly. The plaster can then be applied and finished as you would any other wall.
