Garage foundations - build on a raft or are footings needed?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Double garage made from blocks double skinned 20 ft by 16 ft. Can I build on a raft or are footings needed? It's detached, if a raft can be used what's the depth of materials needed etc

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As Peter says, if you do a raft it would have to be designed by a structural engineer. That method would be more expensive than traditional footings!! I have a feeling the raft you mean is a 150mm thick concrete slab though, that's a definite no-go.
