Self adhesive underlay an option to lay solid wood flooring onto concrete?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Is self adhesive underlay an option to lay solid wood flooring onto concrete? Or should I stick to engineered wood and a floating floor? Thoughts and opinions please, thanks.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, but you need self levelling compound first.

The self adhesive underlay requires a certain know how to install... if you are not familiar to installing this option, it can create problems for the novice. Floating floors are the accepted means of installation for engineered/laminate flooring, simple to remove or uplift if required to get access. Also the underlay that sits freely underneath can be uplifted and replaced (not viable with self adhesive underlay) solid wood flooring also requires secret nailing onto the subfloor and requires more in depth knowledge to install correctly. you cannot ever ever ever stick soild wood !!!! it needs to be secret nailed to a timber subfloor preferably 18mm ply, allowing it to expand and contract. engineered is ok to stick nail or float !
