Combi boiler pressure indicator at its peak in the red and water dripping out

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

I have a Vaillant combi boiler. The pressure indicator is constantly in the red at the very end of the scale and water is dripping from the pipe connected to the boiler outside the house. Does this mean that I need a new expansion tank or what is the problem?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi loodan, First i would ask you to make sure the filling loop is fully closed, this will be located on the pipework in front of the boiler and sometimes on the bottom of the boiler, it will be connected to the cold water pipe. If that is fully closed i would turn off your water stop tap for the house to make sure the filling loop valve is not passing water. If it still continues it would suggest that the expansion vessel has failed and a heating engineer would need to be called. Hope this helps.

Get your engineer to pump up the Expansion Vessel with a foot pump to 1 bar of air works every time, and change the Safety Valve.
