Walls painted with matt after tin mislabelled as silk

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

Okay, Homebase sold me paint that was labelled Silk, which I wanted as easy to keep clean with having pets. So turns out after painting the wall that it is in fact Matt. Cracking appeared as the paint previous was silk and once starting to dry did I notice things was not right. I contacted Homebase and what had happened was the paint company that supplies the paint to Homebase had labelled the tin wrong. Now Homebase gave me instructions to clean the paint with sugar soap, let dry for a few days then repaint with silk. But the minute i apply the sugar soap, there is tons of paint coming off and it's a shocking mess.I complained to Homebase and they have said the paint company have said its a rogue tin and they are not willing to get a painter out to repair the mess to the wall. Homebase are not willing to do anything else either...I'm disgusted with them not bothering that for 7 days now my living room is in chaos and I'm left with their mess to clean up. What can I do to sort this out?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Give it 2 coats of a good trade sealer, make sure you leave it to dry in between coats, then 2 coats of trade paint, keep away from diy paint.

I agree with A J Jenkins, seek legal advice. To rectify the problem, wash off what paint comes off. Then sand down walls, apply one coat of Zinsser Bin, then apply two coats of your preferred finish. I hope this helps
