Grant combi 70 V3 oil boiler keeps shutting down

I have a Grant combi 70 V3 oil boiler. It keeps shutting down and when I press the reset button, sometimes it fires up, sometimes it doesn't. It is 8 years old and is serviced annually. My heating engineer says he can only try to work out the problem when it completely stops working. Do I need a new boiler or a second opinion?
