Movement cracks around ceiling edge after removing old coving
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.05 PM
In process of doing up 1960's house. After removing very old coving by previous owner, I am left with movement cracks around ceiling edge. I don't really want the whole room skimmed, only the ceiling that is in need, but want to ensure that these cracks don't reappear for a quite a while. How does a good plasterer ensure that these cracks stay away? Is it possible? I don't want to have coving either.

P.V.A 3 inches on ceiling and 3 inches on wall.
Fill cracks with bonding when PVA is dry, then put tape on.
The use multi finish or easy fill lay on side ways with a trail normally. Then run the nose of the trail down from each end take the outside edge of with a 4 inch taping knife.
Work back and forward till line comes out.
Then put one more fill on top of that and do the same.
Then when is all dry / sanded down / 2 days after or mist coat where you have done, then use painters mate = top job you know it will never crack again. Never put painter's mate in cracks like that 1st, it's not suitable and will never dry.

hi
the best way is to fill the cracks with painters mate, then run a skim tape half on the wall and half on the ceiling and plaster the ceiling then fill and smooth over the tape with painters filler and rub down on the wall side, then paint.
