Painting skirtings with gloss, walls with matt
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.05 PM
Will my walls look stupid if I paint my skirtings gloss, then walls matt?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No that is the correct paint for skirting and wall. But I suggest that the glossing should be carried out after the walls are finished.

Hi,
Not at all. It's standard to have skirtings painted in either gloss or eggshell and walls in Matt.
Really sharp good cutting in on wood makes a room look very good.
Make sure you buy caulk in white from DIY store and a skeleton gun and apply this bead to tops of all skirts and edges where ceiling meets the walls. Once bead is applied then wet a finger and run along the top donut goes into the crease. Wipe away any excess with a damp cloth. Wait to dry then paint. Use a good brush and decent paint and use the edge of your brush for cutting in.
Only cut in once so paint walls first and paint over the top of the skirting boards. As long as paint is thinned out, wait to dry and then always gloss last.
Hope this helps
Many thanks,
Stuart
