Blocking chimney permanently to stop wind (and noise) coming down the chimney

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM

Hi. We don't use our chimney at all, well not for any fires or such as we don't have any. Problem we have is where we live on a hill it is very windy and the noise coming down the chimney is horrible at times, is there any safe way of blocking the chimney permanently to totally stop the noise --- Additional Sorry meant to say tried the bin bag trick, doesn't make much difference which is why I'm looking for perm blocking, thanks Thanks

Simple, bin bag with a pillow or rags in it, won't cause you any problems and it can be taken out if you ever want to use it again or put a chimney cap on with a reduced air flow.

Hi guys, yes you can permanently block off the chimney, remove external pot and slab chimney, you will need to create a vent into each room it goes through to prevent condensation. Mark Wade and Son Builders
