Hi.
I recently changed my dimmer switch to a normal 1 switch in my dining room. When I flicked the fuse box back on, the lights tripped. I then went and rechecked and sorted it. Now my dining room lights are working fine, aswell as my kitchen lights, but my living room dimmer lights (3 bulbs total) and my hall way (normal switch, 1 bulb) won't turn on. Does anybody know why this may be?? I've changed the bulbs to see if it might have blown the bulbs but this isn't it. The fuse when switched off turns off all lights, but when flicked back on, the living room lights and hall way still won't work
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Could be a blown dimmer and the live loop feed for the hall is linked with the switchline for the living room. Best to remove the dimmer and identify the live feed and switchline at the lounge. If putting a normal one way switch back on there solves the lounge issue then its 99% likely a blown dimmer. (very common as most dimmers are unfused and made in china these days)
The most likely explanation is that you have reconnected the wiring incorrectly. I do not believe it possible to tell you what is wrong without seeing what is what which could involve testing what is what so I am afraid it means calling a registered electrician to sort it out for you.
To be honest I will never cease to be amazed just how many apparently sensible people think it is acceptable or safe to be routing around behind electrical switches when in truth very few people actually have any idea what they are doing.
This is not meant in any way to be offensive just my honest opinion
Kevin..
