Carpet and laminate removal - parquet underneath!

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM

Hi all, We just bought a flat, the flooring is absolutely disgusting. Top layer - cheap, dirty carpet Second layer - laminate Third layer (hopefully) - parquet flooring. How do you suggest we go back getting to the parquet flooring? We want to remove the carpet and laminate. If we don't find parquet flooring underneath we are going to buy and get it installed. Shall we pay someone to rip the carpet and laminate off or do it ourselves? Also, in one room the carpet and laminate has been removed and it is entirely parquet, but covered in paint splatters - how do we remove the paint from the amazing floor? Thanks in advance for your answers! :)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Christina_25, Best to leave the removal of existing carpet and laminate flooring to a professional in case of damage to Parquet flooring if in situ? Paint splatters :- again leave tot the professionals unless you have previous sound experience. If so, then proceed as follows:- Hire Orbital sanding machine with course, medium & fine grades of sanding paper. When back to an acceptable finish allow dust to settle for at least one day and throughly vacuum all areas of room including ceiling and walls. Then French Polish Parquet in three stages lightly sanding between each coat following the latter action for until a high gloss durable sheen is achieved. Only high quality materials should be used including brushes. I hope this advice assists you. Good luck, Rob
