Floorboards that run directly under bedroom wall...

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I'm about to replace the solid wood floorboards in the bedroom, but it appears the existing floorboards run underneath the wall and continue in to the 2nd bedroom? Wall appears to be made of a breeze block type material (1950's house).. And initial view looks like it is over a joist. Question is, how do I remove the old boards and fit the new ones? If at all possible! Please help a puzzled head!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The best advice I can give you is when lifting the old floor, locate the nearest joist to the wall and cut the old board so it sits halfway on the joist. This does mean that you will need to fit your new flooring up against the old, but it will be minimal. Alternatively, if you have some carpentry knowledge you could cut the old boards with a reciprocating saw, tight against the block wall and then fix a new joist against the joist running along the wall, this will then give you a solid fixing for your new boards.
