Using a higher watt bulb (3.5 watt to 5 watt GU 10 spotlight)

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.02 PM

I was using 3.5 watt GU 10 spotlight. I was given 5watt Gu10. I am using 13 in the kitchen area. Are there any dangers? I didn't realise this till I put one in. Seller says he can't take them back. £48 spent. Can I still use these spotlight bulbs? Thank You

I assume your talking about LED spotlights? as 3.5watts and 5watts are both very small wattages. If so there should be no issues. If you meant 35watt halogen GU10's as opposed to 50watt halogen GU10's then yes there could be a fire/overheating issue.

I have never seen any GU10 fittings that state max 3.5w the majority were designed to take 50w. The difference in load between 3.5w and 5w is 1.5w and both run virtually cold.
