Insulation

Can I create a false ceiling to add insulation to wc with flat roof above?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.05 PM

Hi, my downstairs WC has a porch on one side, a garage on two sides and an external wall on the forth. Above is a flat roof. It's freezing, even with a radiator turned up. Too cold to use for me. As it's a flat roof and no loft insulation space, would it be possible to but insulation boards up and then create a false ceiling? What materials would I need? Also, with two walls being against the garage, would it work to put insulation, on the garage side, to insulate the walls? Thanks Em

Theres many different ways to do this! The easiest way to do it would be to buy a roll of multi foil insulation, super quilt or similar. Staple this to battens fixed to existing ceiling then fix plasterboard to the battens. This can also be done with celotex or rockwool, it all depends how much thermal gain you are looking for. Its important that you install new battens to maintain airflow and stop condensation.
