Bathroom Fitting

Bathroom unfinished and labour costs are huge

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM

A company who I had used before for a boiler install stated they could replace my bathroom floor and suite, as original was damaged by a water leak. 6 days in and I finally got an estimate of £12,000 + Vat. The work has left me with an uneven floor, 2 inches higher, a halogen light 1 inch above my head in the shower, leaking wobbly pedestal basin, peeling paint, damp on walls, Insurance company advised me they were grossly overstating costs. I have asked for a breakdown and given them a 30 point snagging list, they have already admitted installation is substandard but insist I accept the unqualified subcontractor back in. A builder inspected the floor and said is does not comply with BS. What should I do? I have withheld payment and offered to pay for materials that can be reused but I feel the labour is so poor that I should not pay for that. Is this a reasonable position as I need to get someone else in. As it stands five weeks later, I still have no usable bathroom and am having to use families.

If you have paid a company to do a job for you, they have a responsibility to complete it to your satisfaction and to building standard rules. I would not pay them a penny until it is completed to a standard that you are happy with. And £12000 does sound like a lot for a bathroom refit. Hope this helps in some way.

£12,000 for a bathroom refurb, are they using solid gold or what? I'd tell them to do one and get a proper fitter in and tell the to pick up their materials as well
