No earth on sink or taps?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM
Recently had new kitchen, have received minor works certificate. Noticed they have used flexi pipe to new taps and plastic elbows to copper supply pipes which are earthed, but this means sink and taps are not, should they be?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Under the 17th Edition Wiring regulations (BS7671:2008) supplementary earth bonding to the hot and cold pipework and the steel sinks is no longer required. This regulation dates from the 15th edition wiring regulations.
The mains water pipework and mains gas pipework must be earth bonded and ideally the installation RCD protected.

No requirement for supplementary earthing within kitchen area but you should have an earth to your water stop tap and gas meter.

There is no regulation that governs supplementary bonding in a kitchen. However, if the manufacturer installation instructions specify earthing and they provide an earthing terminal, you need to earth it.
Supplementary bonding can be omitted all together ONLY when the following conditions are true.
1. the premises have protective equipotential bonding (Regulation 411.3.1.2)
2. the disconnection times have been complied with (Regulation 411.3.1.2)
3. all circuits in the location have been provided with 30mA RCD protection (Regulation 701.411.3.3)
4. all extraneous conductive parts of the location are effectively connected to the protective equipotential bonding (Regulation 411.3.1.2).
RCD's are NOT optional if you do not want to install supplementary bonding.
