You need a full Electrical Installation Condition Report. It takes about 2 -3 hours to do properly and will be a thorough check of all existing lights, sockets, fuseboard etc.

You will require an EICR or as it’s known an Electrical Installation Condition Report which was previously known as a Periodic Inspection Report or PIR. This is an inspection and test of the electrical installation, which is the fixed wiring system made up of equipment, such as a consumer unit (fuse box), lighting and power circuits, and switches and sockets. An electrical installation does not include electrical appliances, such as cookers, heaters and washing machines. An Electrical Installation Certificate is produced when new circuits are installed including a full installation of a new property. Although additions or alterations to high risk areas of kitchens, bathrooms and gardens will also need to have installation certificates. Any installation certificate will also require a certificate of compliance, which is the notification to your local building control office, required by law.
