My bathroom spot lights don't stay on

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Looking for some advice... I have 4 ceiling spot lights in my bathroom which are operated by a pull cord. When the cord is pulled, 6 times out of 10 the lights will come on, but 4 times out of 10 then will only come on briefly. If they come on at the first attempt, sometimes they will flicker and then go out after a while. If they come on briefly I pull the cord twice and then they tend to come on and stay on. The spot light above my shower doesn't appear to work at all, I've fiddled with it and it appears not to have a good connection. I've looked at some threads on here and will try to decrease the wattage (currently 50w) to 20w bulbs. Does anyone else have any other ideas in the event this doesn't work? I'm currently in the process of selling so need it fixing! Many thanks

Could well be just a faulty pull cord switch

Its not the bulbs, it's a loose connection at the pull switch or the junction box at the first spot light or how its wired, the spot light above the shower either the transformer has gone or the lamp holder is broken and not holding the bulb correctly.

Are they low voltage lights? Do the lamps have two small pins? If so, I'd say it's either loose connections or transformer - I'd go with transformer!! If so, replace them with IP rated mains powered shower lights and never worry again....other than lamps blowing now and again
