Damp Proofing

Will removing trees help with damp problem? What else needs to be done and will it be a big job?

We have recently moved into a council bungalow that is wheelchair adapted, we've had several repairs done since we moved in. The latest issue we have is we've found mould on 2 walls ( in one bedroom and in a storage cupboard ) and also the floor in the cupboard gets wet when it rains ( a regular thing lately ) both of these rooms are next to each other and share the same outside wall. Directly outside there are 2 trees right up against the wall, each one is around 6 to 8 inches thick at the bottom of the trunk, these trees are directly outside where the wet floor and mouldy walls are. The council have told us the earliest appointment available for someone to come to look at this is towards the end of March. Now I may be wrong but I'm assuming the trees are the problem here, but what I want to know is when the trees are removed, what else is likely to need doing to rectify the problem? Will it be a big job? How long will it be before it can be redecorated? I would be very grateful of any advice offered. Many thanks...

Hello, yes the trees may be the bulk of the problem, once they are removed the house outer walls may need attention ie pointing brickwork. I recommend you use a dehumidifier for about a week in the affected rooms, this will dry them out. They cost about £68+vat. You can then decorate straight after then. Hope that helped you. It could possibly be the tree's...especially if the tree's are protruding the the roof and the gutters are blocked. The rain water can then spill over in to the wall cavitys. Best Regards (Dean @ Beech Tree Services )
