Buying a house: want to remove non-loading bearing wall but ceilings have artex
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM
Hi We are looking to buy a house. The sellers have added a couple of extra walls/doors to make a utility room and a small annexe. We would like to remove these to open up the house as it is a bit cramped as is. However, the house has artex on the ceilings/walls which could obviously contain asbestos. Is there any way to do these renovations without involving a specialist asbestos contractor? Thanks

I would recommend that you get the Artex sampled first to determine if you have asbestos in the material, then you can move forward from there.
This does not cost the earth to do.

Hello,
No.....is the answer.
If it's asbestos, then a specialist contractor with a licence for safe removal and disposal must be employed to carry out the work.
Kind regards

What a lot of people do now is plaster over the artex, it doesn't solve the underlying problem but can be done as I have done plenty of times and the result is nice flat and smooth walls.
