Loft Conversion

Raise roof or lower ceilings to facilitate conversion?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Hi, I own a 2 storey Victorian semi-detached house. I would like to convert the loft space into 2 x 1 bedroom apartments, however, the roof level seems too low. The ceiling heights on the first floor are circa 11ft and I was trying to establish if it was possible to drop the 1st floor ceiling heights to provide the required loft headroom, rather than raise the entire roof level? Any guidance on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi there, cost wise it would work out cheaper to raise the roof, as if you do go ahead with the work you will have to open a good part of your roof.
