Change ceiling and walls from silk to matt

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.01 PM

Help! I have painted my bedroom walls and ceiling with silk emulsion. They look dreadful, very streaky and some parts very shiny. Can I change back to matt emulsion? Diane

Yes you can. Silk has a sheen finish and not to everyone's taste, what you need to do is use a medium grade of sandpaper, or ideally a sanding sponge (available from all good dec centres and very cheap) to "roughen up" the silk finish, and we're not talking removing it just to provide a "key" for the application of the Matt. Use a decent quality med pile roller £4-6 not a bargain price one job wonder!! load it up with Matt and cover with two coats, allowing 3-4 hrs between coats to allow the paint to dry.
