Demolish and Rebuild Existing Extension - 'Waterproofing'
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.04 PM
The extension that has been on the rear of the house since I moved here (25 years ago) has more than had its day. This year I am definitely get around to sorting it out. It's only about 14' x 6' internally and is single skin brick with most of the longer wall glazed. When originally built it had a felt membrane on the inside walls and and was the timber clad. Not a great idea to start with, but is really bad now. I don't want to create a cavity due to the space I would lose. I understand there is a product that can be put with render to 'waterproof' internally but the name slips mind my mind atm. I am now considering making it timber framed. This way I clad externally with sterling board then UPVC, insulate and decide on internal finish later. This would solve the problem of waterproofing, but what about at ground level? Even if I were to build a couple of courses of bricks below the sole plate, thee would still be the vulnerability where wall meets floor. I can think of a couple of creative solutions but wonder if anybody has any advice based on experience at all?
