Conservatory roof - putting new timber frame inside and under poly carb roof insulating with Kingspan

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.01 PM

I am thinking of putting a new timber frame inside and under the poly carb roof insulating with Kingspan, then plaster boarding it, then plastering it up ready to paint. Can this be done without altering the look on the outside and getting into planning? It will still look the same outside but not on the inside

Yes this is a good solution to many of the impractical, uncomfortable conservatories across the country! Conservatory roofs are hugely over engineered and can easily take this type of alteration. Building regulations should not be an issue, as the conservatory is already in place all you are doing is improving insulation. If this is done at the time of installation then it would be debatable whether this is a conservatory or an extension. Bear in mind it is important to maintain air flow and be aware of cold bridging in order to minimise the risk of condensation buildup. Hope this helps,
