Treating plasterboard and plywood before tiling

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM

These questions has been asked so many times with so many contradicting replies... 1. What should you treat ordinary plasterboard with (outside shower area) prior to tiling? Please give brand names available to the public. 2. What should you treat a newly laid plywood bathroom floor with prior to floor tiling? 3. What should you prime a bare red brick wall with prior to dry lining? In anticipation Dave

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi first to 1, Nothing, but I normally would use SBR primer. 2, This also can be primed with SBR, but I would recommend an uncoupling matt such as Schluter Ditra this is simple to lay and will stop cracking of the tiles. 3, Same again SBR, I only use SBR primer its a good allrounder do not use PVA this is not fit for purpose and breaks down with moisture.

Hello. I agree with A.G.Fright. 1)You can tile straight onto plasterboard, just be careful if you are using very large or heavy tiles due to the weight. 2)You can purchase SBR from somewhere like Toolstation or use something like a BAL primer/sealer from somewhere like Topps Tiles 3)bare brick needs to be sealed to stop any dust reducing the board adhesives 'grip'
