Paint and varnish yellowing in shower room
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.32 PM
I have a shower room which has no window so has been fitted with the latest energy saving LED lights. We don't actually use the shower very often (it's a back up for when people stay). First, the white gloss paint the decorator used turned cream almost immediately (we assumed it was something he did as they were a bit of a mare!) but then a friend made a mirror for us and the varnish she used on the surround went yellow too - she has made others and this has not happened. Is it something to do with the lighting? Do you know of any varnishes that won't yellow?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The yellowing gloss paint in the shower room has probably gone this way because there is no natural light-I know this sounds bizarre. Since 2010 paint make up has changed as there are less VOC's in it. The only way around this is , as the previous chap has stated, is to use water based paint. Just bear in mind that the finish with this paint is not as good as a solvent based product-there is always a trade -off!
