Can I cover up vent in wall if gas fire not used?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.01 PM
We we just moved into a house with a gas fire. Can we cover up the vent in the wall which is causing a massive draft, it is 6"x6". We do not use the gas fire and have recently blocked the chimney with a chimney balloon to help stop the draught from the chimney. If so where could I find such a cover and what would it be called? Many thanks.

As long as the fire is NOW redundant, you can blank the existing ventilation hole, but to be on the safe side get a gas safe engineer to disconnect and make safe the gas supply to fire first!
As far as finding a suitable cover for the vent, search online at B&Q or pop into your local builders merchant, they will be able to help you.
