Regulations for smokeless coal burning stove
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.04 PM
I was given a smokeless coal burning stove 5 years ago, which I fitted in place of an open coal fire. Did I have to comply with any regulations to do this?

Yes. Any solid fuel (log, wood pellet, coal etc) burner installation should be signed off as 'safe' by a HETAS qualified engineer. Failure to obtain the relevant safety certificate is not only dangerous to you and your family, but will also invalidate your home insurance policy in the event of a house fire. Regulations also require the presence of a carbon monoxide sensor / alarm in any room containing a solid fuel appliance.
