Nailing square edge floor boards - brad nails
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.48 PM
I want to re nail the floor board in my 1930s flat, I've taken out all the nails and relayed the floor boards to get rid of gaps and replaced damaged boards. I want to know what is the best way of nailing them back down - is brad nails the best option? I also want to sand after nailing down. I've also read something about cut nails but not sure if they are the same as brad nails.

Hi Neil,
Instead of nailing way not glue. Some of these new glues are great, eg Gorilla glue. If you fix the first board down, then glue each new plank in, add a weight as the glue expands. These glues set in 5 mins if warm. You have no problems with sanding and ripping up the belt sander sheets. If you want to show off the nails after it's all sanded and varnished, use rose nails, looks great.
