I paid 50% to my builder and then agreed (as stated on the contract) to pay monthly, now wants weekly payments

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.01 PM

It is a commercial job, he is doing my shop, I paid £12,000 after signing the contract and then he asked me for an extra £2,000. Today he called to have a meeting and he basically said that now he wants £2,000 weekly until the end of the work. I was worried so before to agree I asked to send a list of the things that he has done and the money spent, basically about £5,000 of the work that he said is done is not. What should I do?

You should not have paid him any money upfront, but should have paid on agreed stage payments. Ask him what he needs the money for, if it's for materials, tell him to write out a list and you will buy them. Don't pay him any more until he is caught up with the work that you think he has done, if he argues, tell him you will see him court. DO NOT GIVE IN Peter
