Can I use Celotex Insulation Board beneath electric underfloor heating & laminate?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.01 PM

I am looking to install under laminate electric wire heating in the lounge, timber floor. The 30mm pro warm insulation boards sold by the heating supplier are £10 for a 1200 x 600mm sheet, roughly twice the price of the Celotex 25mm board (£20 for 2400 x 1200) Paul's answer made me look again at the math, I'd need 4 1200x600 boards for each 2400x1200. Plus the bigger board will be easier to lay / fit. However, will it do the same job? The insulation boards sit on the timber floor. The in foil wire heating sits on top of the insulation board, then laminate over the top. There is no screed. However, if it is the case celotex was used with original matting then screed, it sounds as if the foil is replacing the screed & therefore celotex will work? Hints & tips much appreciated. Thanks Jane

It entirely depends on cost tbh. As there are two methods for creating this warm floor, the 1st is to have the heating laid 1st and then the floor screeded then laminate ontop or the 2nd is to have the celotex laid flat and then again screed ontop of that then lay flooring. I personally have never come across a system where as you lay celotex then lay flooring straight ontop. Also you mentioned the price of the materials which are the same price for a 1200x600 for £10 and 2400x1200 for £20? If this is the case they are both going to cost you exactly the same to cover the same area. My honest advice would be to have somebody local to you to take a look and they will be better equipped to give you a helpful solution. Cheers Paul S.B.S carpentry services.
