Validity of Certificate of Guarantee for damp proof injections

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.04 PM

I have recently moved into a property, where a damp course was injected in 2008 and a 20-year guarantee issued. Unfortunately the exterior walls (about 1-2 feet over the skirting board) are damp. When I called the company they told me that the guarantee meant nothing without the report (which they have) and that, most likely, it was the fault of whoever plastered the walls (I'm still unsure exactly who that was at this stage). The company in question are coming round in a few days to assess what has happened (at 6pm when it will be dark). I'm concerned that they will offer the same explanation and, as a result, absolve themselves of blame. Worse still, I've just found a completely independent customer review of this firm from Sept 2013, who had exactly the same complaint. I suppose my two main questions are: 1. Do I have a leg to stand on? 2. What kind of questions should I be asking when they come round? Can anyone offer advice? Thanks, T

as rising damp is miss diagnosed in at least 70% of cases when the damp proof treatment does not work that's usually when the fun begins, guarantees are only as good as the people or company issuing them. while a lot of people will disagree with me, rising damp is a very rare occurrence most dampness is penetrating caused by bad house keeping. good luck Alex

Hi there You will not have a leg to stand on if you can not confirm that they had carried out the plastering as it would have to be carried out in right manor and mix of renders with water proofers anti salt agents,if someone else carried out the rendering then I would imagine they will get the blame,if they are members of the pca (property care association then they would be able to answer your questions.
