Best method to prepare and paint stone sills?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I've just had new windows installed and the time has come to finally smarten up the external stone sills. At present there is black gloss on there that has heavily flaked over time to expose another coat of white. I'm just wondering what the best method would be to prep and paint these? I was planning on using a wire brush to take anything loose off, before wiping them down and painting with Dulux Weathershield. Should i be thinking about a primer or is there any type/brand of paint suitable that can go straight on top of the old paint?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I will take fein multimaster and will remove all flaked paints, then will apply, dulux stabilising primer, after when is dry will make smooth surface with toupret exterior filler, then again will apply dulux stabilising primer, and when is dry two coats of dulux weathershield paints. But you know every painter is different and use own methods.

For me the best paint for your sills is sandtex paint. To prep your sills, the wire brush would do the job but if the black gloss is two thick you may be better with a grinder with a wire brush on it. Before you paint them, I would unibond them first then paint them.
