How can we fix cracks in the wall caused by heavy drilling?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.04 PM
Our semi detached house is Victorian and the upstairs landing backs onto the bathroom of the adjoining property. Our neighbours are currently having a new bathroom suite installed and new tiles. There has been a lot of banging and drilling! Unfortunately, yesterday we noticed a long hairline crack has appeared in our landing wall. At some points it is wider than others. Their plasterer has said he will come round and fix it. What would that involve and can we trust he'll do this properly, or should we get our own person round to have a look? Thank you!

It's quite good that they have offered. I imagine they will only tape and fill the cracks. This would be okay as a temporary repair. If you tap the wall with your knuckle and it sounds hollow, you should get the wall replastered as it will be blown.
