What to do if tradesman does not respond after job is done

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.00 PM

I'd like advice on what can be done to get a tradesman to finish off a job he's started to a reasonable standard. I hired a tradesman through MyBuilder.com to fix a roof. Though the job is completed, the roof is still leaking and he is not answering the phone or responding to texts or emails.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sometimes it is difficult to rectify problems and simply by fixing what you think maybe the actual cause may still not solve the problem. If you cannot get hold of this roofer then you will have to consider employing another roofer to inspect and report his findings. It maybe that there is an element of poor workmanship or further works are still required to solve the leak. If the defects are down to negligence then you could try small claims courts if you have the roofers details but negligence is a hard thing to prove especially if it was leaking in the first place. You may unfortunately have to simply move on, but have you tried speaking or contacting MyBuilder direct?

When we take a look at a job and are honest from the start. If we believe we can stop the leak then we offer a guarantee. If the leak is not stopped we try again and if for what ever reason we can not solve a leak or we have underestimated the amount of work it takes for us to solve the leak then we reimburse the customer the full amount. This is because we believe our customers are not just paying us to work but are paying us to solve their problem. It is never ok to just refuse to come back and keep the customers money. If on the rare occasion we feel unsure that we can solve a leak we are honest and let the customer know beforehand that while every effort will be made to solve the problem it may not work and therefore no guarantee can be offered. We see this as fair.
