Gap where roof / felt meets UPVC weatherboard - dormer flat roof in loft conversion
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.00 PM
We have just had a loft conversion, with a flat roof/dormer. The dormer is complete however where the roof/felt meets the UPVC weatherboard, there is about a 1 inch gap with bare timber. The felt looks fine and there is a small lip where the felt folds back up underneath the roof. My concern is that the roof is not entirely weather tight. I can't see anything similar on any other flat roofs. Is this normal for a flat roof?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Jnr,
The timber should be treated, sealed around the edges nearest the dormer cheeks with silicone, then clad with a pvc or suitable timber slip (Cedar). Seal round the perimeters of this slip then also.
By the way, if there is only a 1 inch solid timber soffit, then how are you ventilating the roof void?
