Sulphur smell when toilet is flushed

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I moved into my property 8 months ago and I have found that when I flush the toilet (upstairs), I get a foul sulphur like smell that circulates downstairs. It seems to be worse when the toilet hasn't been flushed for several hours, eg overnight. On the day I moved in, my next door neighbours were having their drains unblocked (by the waterboard) and they later told me that our properties share the same drains. I cannot smell any bad odours outside though. Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you need to call in a drainage expert to look at things like good flow with adequate venting, also to check that the drainage within the property is airtight.

Also make sure all your sink traps are full of water and any outside gully that are not in permanent use Peter
