Electrical wiring of chandelier to old light fixture
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.04 PM
I was doing some electrical wiring of a chandelier to a old light fixture. Did what I had to do i.e. take off old fixture hang chandelier and connect live to live, neutral to neutral and earth to earth. However it still doesn't work. Tried it with two of the same ones, doesn't work. However another type of chandelier, same connection works. Doing my head in, please advise people! Thanks. They were 5 bulb chandeliers.

Sounds like faulty wiring on the chandelier itself?

Hi Handy?
usually there is a switch wire (red or black with red tape or brown tape) to differentiate from the others loop wires. So you should have 3 reds, 3 black and 3 earth? one red is feed(live) one red is loop to another room, and the other red is part of the switch combine with one of the blacks. you will need a continuity tester to make sure which is which. Also open the switch to see what cable they use. Goes without saying, all this with the power off.
