Replacing double oven
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM
I am needing to replace my built in double oven and I have purchased a new one and paid for fitting. I have taken a look at the current oven which is built in and the electric cable goes into the wall and behind the kitchen tiles. Will this be a straight forward job where they will disconnect current oven and just attach new one to the existing power cable or am I going to be told that my kitchen needs ripped apart ? It looks like a straight forward switch over but I tend to be quite unlucky .

It does not sound as though its been done 100% correct, as it's normal practice to have a cooker connection plate on the wall so that the flexible heat resistant rubber cable can be connected and disconnected easily.
I'd say it depends on what mood the delivery guy is in, but it's possible that they may refuse connection.

Is your cooker circuit protected by an rcd, and is the existing cable heat resistant? If not, it is certain that they will refuse to connect the new oven. I would suggest that you get an electrician to install a cooker outlet plate (and rcd if required) after checking out the circuit then you will have no problem. Regards, Terry.
