Moving a radiator from wall to behind door

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi, I have bought a house and looking at the layout of the lounge I would like to move the radiator from one wall to behind the lounge door. I've been told that this isn't a good idea as it can trap the heat or cause the door to warp? Is this correct? I can't find anything to prove this and have seen many people prop a sofa against their radiators before. Any advice would be welcomed!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, You can install the radiator pretty much anywhere in a room. You should take into account though, heat loss if you intend to install it under a window or in a bay window. A modern radiator convects meaning it pulls cold air from the bottom as the air warms up passing through the fins on the radiator the warm air pushes up from the top of the radiator heating your room. If you are to install the radiator close to a door, I don't think it will have any effect on the door warping the wood etc, but you may lose heat through the gaps in the door and you may increase the draft from the gap at the bottom of the door the closer the radiator is fit. A radiator usually needs to be installed 200mm from the floor to gain optimum efficiency. Thanks Ryan
