Water leaking into flat below

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

Hi there After some help if possible. We had a call from the people below us in our block of flats who said they had water leaking through their light and extractor fan whenever we had a bath. we got the plumber out who confirmed that we did have a leak and he fixed the waste pipe. The people downstairs are still saying they have water dripping through whenever we run the bath? The plumber came back and has confirmed there are no more leaks. We are at a loss??? Any ideas? If it helps, the extractor fan has apparently been broken for over 6 months downstairs we have suggested they get someone out to have a look.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, if your neighbours are still having water through their ceiling then I'm afraid the leak hasn't been properly fixed. These kind of leaks are notoriously difficult to solve as they are so hard to trace. When checking for the leak, rather than just running a tap, fill your bath right up, this will put the waste joins under more pressure. Also lay some kitchen towel under the waste pipe below your bath, this is a good indicator as to where the water is escaping. Also do you shower in your bath, if so how is the seal between bath and tiles? Hope this helps
