Painting & Decorating

I can still see where I have filled after painting

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 3.00 PM

I am newly plastered ceiling and walls, I have done the first prep coat and have filled the small holes with poly filler and sanded. The ceiling feels smooth but now I have painted the first full coat with Dulux I can still see where the poly filler is. Do I need to sand it some more?

If the ceiling and walls have been newly plastered then you should have a smooth enough surface to paint, which should not require filling. If the new plaster is not completely smooth, then first sand using a pad sander. I would suggest a mist coat first (diluted emulsion) as new plaster is very porous. This should then give you a sound base to then paint with your finish coat/s.

Hi you must make sure the filler is sanded/blended into the new plaster first. I would then recommend rolling / brushing a coat of your chosen colour over the filler, when dry apply 2 coats of your colour to finish off this should then cover the filler.

Well you will at least need to apply 2 coats of paint to your walls to get good coverage and when walls are newly plastered you should apply 2 mist coats (10 water 90 emulsion) then final coats, see if the filler fees level as the surrounding surface. 1 coat of paint won't cover much.
