Plaster on kitchen ceiling fell down after being painted
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.00 PM
Had my kitchen ceiling plastered over plaster board and 4 weeks later had it painted. As it was painted, the whole of the plaster on the ceiling fell down. Can you please tell why this has happened? Thanks Rob

What does the plasterer say? I've never seen plaster fall off of new board before.

This sounds like no pva was used on the ceiling before the plaster was put on or he did not mix up enough of it.

Never heard of plaster falling off plasterboard before.
Pva would not need to be used on plasterboard unless it has been up a long time.
Are you sure it was plastered onto fresh plasterboard or over skimmed existing plaster?

Plastering on to new plasterboard would not require a pva primer or an sbr primer as plasterboards are ready for direct application of board finish or multifinish only if the joints o. The boards have had scrim cloth applied and been prepped with plaster prior to application would you need to use a primer and then would only require it on the joints itself in 30 years in the trade have never heard of plaster coming away from plasterboards maybe a bad batch of plaster sounds like it wasn't the plasterer at fault I'm sure if you contacted him he would like to resolve the issue as I know I would 👍🏽
