Built-in bed over stair box/bulk head

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.03 PM

Advice needed on design for a simple but full-sized single bed to be built over stair box/bulk head. Thinking probably slightly higher than a regular bed - perhaps mid-sleeper height so storage could be added underneath at a later date but in the mean time it could be used as a child’s hideaway? Any advice on things to consider would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

Ascertain actual height of the stair bulkhead, if this is a reasonable height given the age of the user and safety aspect, you would then be able to create a supported bed structure using the bulkhead for support at one end and suitable supporting wall fixed timbers along the sides and at the opposite end. You would also be advised that a low profile side rail would be an added safety feature as would be seen on a normal bunk bed, this can be a few inches over the thickness of the mattress to be used and bedding. You now have underbed storage which can be framed in at a later date, with the option of door fronts and panels if desired.
